A sorely needed upgrade has come into my life, or more specifically my living room: an early Christmas present in the form of a brand spanking new TV. It's not so much a "need," I suppose, but it definitely is a welcome change to the now green and purple fringed tube I purchased in 2003.

We are experiencing an unfamiliar design landscape that is drastically different from anything that we may have become accustomed to in recent decades. Fortunately, the current post-capitalism arena that we have entered challenges the irresponsible way of communicating through design.

Brook Sarson claims to not be a business person. Nor a plumber, or a landscape architect, for that matter. She's just someone who cares deeply about the lack of smart water resources in San Diego county and wants to spread the word to home-owners and city officials alike. It turns out the best way to do that, however, is by founding and operating the only rainwater catchment and greywater recycling company in Southern California. We've been following, and wearing, the work of David Rau and Josh Bertrand, two artists in Tampa, Florida, for many years, and have been intrigued by these guys who seem to make art, trouble, and great wallets, look effortless. We recently heard that Dave has dove in head-first to  make their company, Resist Today, succeed, and "to have full days to devote to making fine art, better products, independent web sites and collaborative projects with friends".

Kylie Harper is not a bull-horns, marches, and rallies kind of activist. Not that she has any qualms about organizing her team to hit the streets to take down major corporations, she just does it with a soft voice - and aims for a soft underbelly. When we met up in the cafe of the Housing Works Used Bookstore in Soho, her first words were a softly amazed "I've got to sign this place up."
